Finding a Life Partner

Finding a Life Partner

Someone has described the time of youth going into marriage as the grave yard of Christian youths’ spirituality. Many become casualties at this time. Some, who have been very effective youth leaders, falter at this stage. There is also pressure to get married before it is too late.

The questions are:
- Who determines when it is too late?
- Is peer pressure a good determinant?
- Must everybody get married?
- Does it mean that singles are in the wrong?

This book seeks to deal with all these questions. It is not just a book about pre-marital issues; it is about biblical guidance in all areas. I believe that God wants to lead us. He says : “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

He also says:
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.
Do not be like the horse or the mule,
which have no understanding
but must be controlled by bit and bridle
or they will not come to you.” Psalm 32:8-9

We should therefore not just seek to be led in finding a life partner, but to also be led by God in all areas of life. In this book, the author argues that once you choose Jesus as your Lord, you no longer need to make choices after that. Jesus makes all the choices for you. You only need to find out what His choice for you is on every issue. Choosing Him is the last choice you ever need to make. I pray that this book will lead all leaders to seek a closer walk with God in all areas. I believe this will lead to a contented life that hopes rather than fears.

We start the book with a discussion on the status of marriage as an institution: The Declining Importance of Marriage, then move on to define a Christian marriage: What is a Christian marriage? We need to agree that not all are called to marriage, hence a discussion on Single hood.

That clears the introductory part of the book. We move on to the second part that discusses the main subject of the book, which is the calling into marriage. The book encourages you to first find out whether you have the right motives for going into marriage: Why Marry? This section also discusses Am I Called to Marriage? Knowing God’s Will; Do You Choose or Find a Life Partner? and Biblical Principles of Finding a Life Partner.

The final part of the book deals with what you do after you identify your future life partner. This includes: Courtship Before Marriage: What Issues Must Be Covered? Wedding, and Sexuality.

This book gives my personal interpretations which you are free to disagree with. But my prayer is that my thoughts will provoke you to check what the Bible says on the matter and follow it to the letter as you seek to live within God’s will for your life.
