Day 1
1 Corinthians 6
9 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men[a]
Why are we taking so long on this sex subject? It is a subject we have to keep discussing because of several reasons. One, is the fact that the Bible is very clear about it that you cannot claim to be a Godly person and have sex outside marriage or sex before marriage. it is a pity that many so called “men of God” still get involved in it. So, the first reason we must talk about it is because the Bible itself talks about it.
Reason number two, it is because the Bible says that when you are involved in sexual immorality, you are sinning against your own body. In other words, it is lack of self-dignity. For you to lack discipline to the extent that you can sleep outside your wed lock. So, it is the kind of sin that is self-degrading.
Third reason for this discussion is that we are told that sexual immorality opens you up to other spiritual problems including demonic habitation, or other demonic operation. Thus, it is not the kind of thing that you really want to go into it when you value yourself.
But the final reason for it is that there must be something very seriously powerful in sex for it to cause so many people to fall down from their faith. Even the greatest leader, the moment he cannot “zip up,” whether King, President, that leader will be on his way down.
I have written a biography on the life of King David and basically sex was his own doing. From the moment David slept with Bathsheba, the rest of his leadership is in trouble. God punished him beyond any imagination. Things went wrong in his own family, and things went wrong in his kingdom all because of not “zipping up.” Maybe they did not have zips those days. So, whether he did not do had a terrible consequence.
So, it means that for us as men and women reading this, we must be aware of its negative impact and therefore take care.
To imagine that we cannot fall, to imagine that we are above the possibility of this monster tearing us down is false hood. But since we know how serious the situation is then we will spend our time being careful.
Day 2
1 Corinthians 6
12 “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything.
In the book of first Corinthians chapter six, this is a subject that is well discussed. Read from verse 9;
9 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: N: neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men[a] 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
13 You say, “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both.” The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 14 By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a Prostitute? Never! 16 Do you not know that he who unites himself with a Prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.”[b] 17 But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit.[c]
18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. 19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore, honour God with your bodies.
That is really a very clear message that God is giving us. I want to start by telling you what we have kept repeating that Jesus defined in the book of Matthew that sex immorality is not necessarily sleeping with somebody to whom you are not married. It is imagining a sexual encounter with somebody you are not yet married to or somebody different form the one you are married to. I call it sex in the mind. And according to Jesus, that sex is as bad as the actual physical encounter. In fact, in hell there will be people who are there for sexual immorality, but they never slept with somebody they are not married to but in their mind, they were involved.
My understanding of that is that it means many people who are involved in pornography, have never physically had a sexual encounter, that means they can never suffer from HIV, which many cases come through sexual encounters, yet they will still go to hell. They cannot get pregnant because that happens with physical encounters. For them they do it in the mind through watching pornographic materials, masturbation, and through other imaginations.
The word of God is saying you may not get physical problems that come with sexual encounter but in terms of going to hell, that is exactly where you will go. Let me read verse nine.
do you not know that wrong doers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived, neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters, nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
And these sexually immoral people, according to Jesus, are people who have imaginations of sex not just the ones who physically get involved in it. So, you can have sex in the mind, you can have sex in the soul but you can also have sex in the body. Jesus is saying you are not expected to have sex in any one of those areas. So, sex outside marriage, one man one woman is what we call sexual immorality.
Day 3
1 Corinthians 6
10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
Of course, sometimes will call it fornication when both of you may not have been married or one of you is married but one of you is not married. So, it cannot be adultery, but it is actually fornication. Adultery is when you are married, and you are sleeping with somebody who is married but is not married to you. But the portion of scripture we have read have widened the circle, it has included homosexuality, that is first Corinthians chapter six verse nine.
So, when we are talking about these people who cannot go to heaven, they are simply called wrongdoers but then the list of wrongdoers includes sexual immoral number one, idolaters -these are people who worship idols, number two, adulterers number three then number four is men who have sex with men. I do not know whether we can be clearer than that. Of course, it also includes thieves and greedy people and drunkards, people who take alcohol and get drunk or slanderers.
The word of God is coming and summarizing and saying wrongdoers is the word of all that cannot inherit the kingdom of God. You cannot be any one of those as a Christian. You cannot be a homosexual, even if you have married in church do not be immoral.
I hear now, homosexuals are marrying in church under a Pastor, how will you change this verse? The verse says it is not how you wedded it is who you wedded that determines you are homosexual. The word of God is saying, all of that kind of activity will put you out of heaven.
Homosexuality or prostitution is another word that is mentioned here. You say me am not a Prostitute, I do not have sex for pay. But you see many people know that if I have sex with this rich man, I will benefit in one way or the other. You then are a Prostitute. In all of that, the word of God is saying if you are involved in sex outside marriage then you are not part of God’s kingdom.
So sexual immorality is even there is no sexual penetration and therefore no pregnancy, therefore no HIV but you have displeased God because God is looking at the mind.
You know when we talk about these idolatries, it may also refer to people, you have somebody you fear that leads you to do wrong things to avoid displeasing him. I think that will be something that is important to consider. You are idol worship if you have someone you fear and so cannot tell no.
You see, when we talk about this sexual immorality, it may also mean sexual stimulation. You do this in pornography, or masturbation. This is stimulation to give sexual satisfaction outside marriage. What are you doing? You want to enjoy sex outside marriage but with yourself. I think that will be something that you need to look at and ask yourself whether you are involved in it. Are you masturbating? If you are masturbating, then you are enjoying sex outside marriage. It is still part of sexual immorality.
Day 4
1 Corinthians 6
Do not be deceived: N: neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men[a]
So, we say this thing is wide. You may be consuming pornography, you may be watching dirty films, you may be reading dirty books, you may be involved in mating with somebody who is not your marriage partner, like embracing wrongly somebody who is not your sex partner.
Here you do not end up with the actual penetration but you embrace somebody’s wife and squeeze her, too your satisfaction. You do it because of how it makes you feel nice. That niceness you feel is part of the immorality. So, all of that is something that we need to deal with. Is that something that you are involved in?
So, what we have said so far is that God condemns sexual immorality. So, if you are not yet married, stay without having sex until your wedding day. If God never gives you somebody to marry, you just have to live without sex because that is what God has chosen for you.
And by the way sex is only one wrong thing. You may have wanted to get a daughter but God gave you three sons, you tried another one, you got a fourth son, tried again but got a fifth son. Finally, you stop it and for the rest of your life you accept that I will stay without having enjoying being a father of a daughter but that is something that God choses for me. There are many things we have learnt to live without and yet enjoy our earthly life.
You may want to get married, but He has not allowed you to get a spouse. You may want to have sex but God has not allowed you. You just have to learn how to accept God’s decrees, even when you would have wanted to choose otherwise. It is not just the question of sex.
So, if you are single, but you would have wanted to have sex, but you have nobody to marry you or you have nobody to marry then it means God wants you remain with that unmet need. Just like the man who has five sons has decided to accept that God does not want him to have daughter.
Jesus taught us in the garden of Gethsemane that our desires are not always in line with the father’s desires. That is why he said remove this cup from me, yet not my will but yours. The son of God acknowledged that as a human being there maybe things you want but those are not the things God has for you.
So, you cannot say, but you see Brother Ng’ang’a I have not refused to get married, nobody wants to marry me, and I have such a deep desire for sex, how can I meet it? You just have to pray to God to help accept your current situation. That will not be the only thing, there will be many things that you want but you will not get. Maybe you want a better a house, and your salary is not increasing so moving you out of your current situation becomes hard. You just learn to accept your current house or otherwise you will become a thief looking for money. Learn to accept your lot in the meanwhile as you ask God for increased provisions at a later time. Before he provides, you just have to accept where you are. Work as hard as you can but there will still be things you cannot get.
Sometimes it maybe a child, you cannot get a child. You have tried everything; you have tried doctors of all type but ten years later you still have no child. You have to make up your mind whether you adopt, or do you not adopt and enjoy your life without children.
Day 5
1 Corinthians 6
13 You say, “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both.” The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
The point am trying to drive home is do not end up sexually immoral because you think that if God loves you, he should have given you some marriage partner or because your marriage partner is not good sexually, so you are sexually starved you feel justified to be immoral? So, on the basis of the fact that your spouse; your husband or your wife starves you, so you now think it is ok to have to start having sex outside.
No, if God has not given you some good time in your bedroom pray to him to give you a better time. But before he improves it or helps you to improve it, you just have to keep in the same bed. You cannot say because your wife has refused you sex, you now are free to go elsewhere. God can change your wife. Why do not you pray to him? But before he answers the prayer you must keep off sex outside marriage.
That is why God is putting it categorically in verse nine, if you decide to disobey God and still have sex then please know that you are certainly going to hell. There is no debate about it.
Look at verse twelve.
I have the right to do anything you say, but not everything is beneficial. I have a right to do anything, but I will not be mastered by anything.
Do you understand what that means?
Verse fourteen says.
by his power God raised the Lord from the dead and he will raise us also,
In other words, you need a clarity of what your calling is because if you are clear that you are living to do things that honour God. Then sex outside marriage will not be one of them. Given your circumstances. You may have a right to do it; but is it beneficial? You say I have a right to do anything, but have you allowed it to master you. You have such a desire for sex and your wife is pregnant and not available and you feel you cannot wait two months. That means sex has become addiction.
Day 6
1 Corinthians 6
12 “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything.
The word of God is saying you may have a right to sex but you must not allow it to master you or to be addicted to it. What is addiction? Addiction is when you do something because you must. Then you are addicted. Whenever you do something because you must, then we can say clearly you are addicted to it. Many people end up in sexual immorality because they feel like I cannot help it, no, no that is addiction. Just like a drug addict needs help, a sex addict also needs help, but it is beyond that.
So, he is saying please have a clear reason for living, a clear reason for living. Do not live for pleasure. Do not live to get pleasure because if you live for pleasure then you will feel like I must do it. But if you have a reason for living, your joy will come out of seeing you achieving God’s calling on your life.
Verse thirteen we read earlier.
food for the stomach and the stomach for food and the Lord will destroy them both, the body however is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord and the Lord for the body.
So, that is why you will not accept any addiction whether pornography, or masturbation or sex outside marriage or sex with a younger woman, whatever it is you feel like you must do. No, no. God is promising he can help you out of it and please know that God will destroy you if you get a legitimate need but meet it in a wrong way.
Food for the stomach yes but do not steal food because you are hungry although hunger is a genuine need.
Verse sixteen is saying;
do you not know that he who unites himself with a Prostitute is one with her in his body? For it is said the two will become one flesh but whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit.
Sex is a way of bringing two people to oneness, so if you allow yourself to have sex with a woman, you are becoming one with them. Yet marriage is a one-on-one affair.
So, if you have sex with even your girlfriend before the wedding, then you are actually, in prostitution. You are trying to meet a need without following the legitimate requirements. You know the word of God is saying the reason you should not be getting involved in this sex, is in verse eighteen.
flee from sexual immorality, all other sins a person commits are outside the body but whoever sins sexually sins against his own body.
So, having seen all these things it means that you should not only walk away from sexual sin, but you should also flee away. My understanding of it is you must understand the Joseph kick; running away from Mrs. Potiphar, you do not negotiate with the situation, you will soon find yourself sexually involved.
So, do not be in a place that can compromise you, do not be in a place where you can be tempted thinking I am strong. no, no here the word of God is not saying walk away from it. It is saying flee, run away. ooh, I will be embarrassed, what will they think. That is secondary, once you have run away, they can laugh at you, but you will have been an overcomer,
Day 7
1 Corinthians 6
18 Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.
Flee from sexual immorality. In other words, do not negotiate. If somebody is tempting you, do not argue with them saying. You know am a Christian I cannot do it. Instead, run away from him, move away, lock them out. Do not bring them anywhere near you. That may be true of your girlfriend if you are not yet married to her. Do not allow her to come to your house and it is just the two of you locked up inside. You are playing with fire. Here the word of God is saying flee. That is first Corinthians chapter six verse eighteen; flee. Why? Because if you have respect for yourself and honour God, you will be disciplined enough to flee.
What is discipline? discipline is the ability to do what needs to be done even if you do not feel like doing it. It is the ability to stop doing something even if you feel like doing it. Then we will say aah that guy is disciplined. Christians are disciples; disciples are disciplined people. It means you can ask God for help to keep away from compromising situations. And so, when you actually end up having sex outside marriage, what we know is that you have no self-dignity, you have lost your dignity. You do not have self-respect and that is something that you need to deal with.
Anyway, verse nineteen is saying;
do not you understand that the body is not yours, do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit? Who is in you, whom you have received from God, you are not your own
I think that is something you need to understand that your body is where the Holy Spirit is because the moment you asked Jesus to come into your life, God in the power of the Holy Spirit came to be resident in your life.
How, would you contradict his wishes and expect by not allowing Him to live in you.
So, we are learning, which is a very important thing to learn that your body is where the Holy Spirit lives, the temple of the Holy Spirit. Why are you not going to be involved in sexual immorality? Because God has said no to it and when you have sex immorality you are therefore asking God to go out of your life. The body is the temple of the Holy Spirit.
Even more important is that the verse says that you do not belong to yourself, you belong to God, you were purchased by the death of Jesus Christ. Verse nineteen is saying; you are not your own, you were bought at a price therefore honour God with your bodies. So your bodies are supposed to be lived in such a way when they are brought to God, when you eat, when you exercise, whatever you do must bring Glory to God.
So, what is verse eleven saying?
That is what some of you were, but you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the spirit of God.
So, what is the solution for sexual immorality: getting born again. We were immoral but we came to Christ, he gave us power over sexual temptation. You were justified; you were sanctified. We are only waiting to be glorified and before we are glorified remember you can be tempted. Remember you can fall to sin despite being saved.
Do not ever think you are strong enough not to fall sexually because that will be one of the devils lies preparing you to fall. Then verse fourteen is saying.
by his power God raised the Lord from the dead and he will raise us also.
So, surely, I agree that the temptation is serious, the tempter is even worse. Is it a woman who is in your case wants you to sleep with you?
But the God who raised Jesus from the dead is in you. Jesus was Dead “kabisa” but he resurrected him. He is also going to raise you to be strong enough to be able to say no to sin.
We are answering the question: how can you live a life of sexual purity, of overcoming the issues of sex.
So, first of all, by getting born again. Number two by seeking God’s power the same one that resurrected Christ from the dead to be in you, power to change, power to conquer the sexual urge. Then verse seventeen is saying but whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit. Unite yourself with Jesus, you are no longer just yourself, but Christ is living in you. He has also emphasized that another way to keep from sin is you flee from temptations. Verse nineteen is saying.
yield your body to the Holy Spirit,
In other words, do what the Holy Spirit wants because after you are his temple.
So, do the right thing. Do not sin in the mind. If you manage to take sex as wrong in the mind, then the physical one is unlikely to ever happen. That is something that you need to understand and practice.
So, if you want to live a righteous life, get born again, and if you are born again take advantage of God’s resurrection power to conquer the urge to have sex.
Next, unite with Jesus. Be one with him so that you can say with Paul;
“it is no longer I that lives but Christ that lives in me.”
Like joseph, flee. Do not negotiate, do not be in sexually tempting circumstances and you think you can negotiate, run away from it.
Then yield your body to the Holy Spirit, to run it and then you will walk a life of victory. So, what have we said; sexually immorality is totally condemned, and no sexual immoral person can hope to go to heaven. What have we said, that when we live a sexually purely life, you will honour God, you will Glorify God, but you will also walk a life of dignity. Sexual immorality brings you into indignity.
